A Low-Pressure system in the Bay of Biscay will cause significant weather disruption in Spain.Low-Pressure system in the Bay of Biscay will cause significant weather disruption in Spain.

Specifically, over the next few hours, the low-pressure center is expected to approach the area, with a minimum pressure around 980hPa. In combination with the weather fronts accompanying it, as shown in the surface chart from the Met-office, this will lead to a marked deterioration in the weather across Spain and the western parts of France.

Starting today at 12:00 UTC and for at least the next 24 hours, gale-force winds are expected both in the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel, with intensities locally exceeding 40-45 knots, along with high wave heights of over 5-6 meters, as shown in the following images from the PrimeWatch platform (Wind & Significant Wave as of 29th 1200 UTC till 30th of January 0000 UTC).

Heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally intense, will also occur in several areas of Spain and the western coasts of France, while heavy snowfall will be recorded in parts of northern Spain at low altitudes. A gradual improvement is expected from the last day of January, as the low-pressure system moves further east and weakens.
